This CD is devoted to five new reconstructions of lost works by Bach which are known only in later arrangements made by the master himself. Central here are the two concertos for three harpsichord and strings BWV 1063 and 1064, which are pieces in fact very hard to realize convincingly in their surviving form. They appear here reduced for considerably slimmed down scorings - BWV 1063r for two violins, strings and continuo, BWV 1064r for three violins, two violas and continuo - finally allowing the beauty of Bach's music to shine through. The collection furthermore consists of the well-known violin concerto in G minor BWV 1056r (but with a "new" middle movement!), the Partita for lute or harpsichord BWV 997 in its alleged original form for violin and lute, and a reconstruction of Bach's "little" harpsichord concerto in D minor BWV 1059r (which Bach himself left unfinished, obviously in favour of the "big" D minor BWV 1052). The program notes provide detailed background information about these reconstructions.

De keuze om BWV 1063 te herleiden tot een concert voor twee violen, strijkers en continuo, en BWV 1064 te presenteren als een concert voor drie violen, twee altviolen en continuo, is een meesterlijke zet. ... Het ensemble blinkt uit in zowel technische beheersing als expressiviteit. Bach Restored is daardoor een album geworden dat zowel de kenner als de liefhebber zal bekoren. Mooi ook hoe historische nauwkeurigheid hand in hand gaat met artistieke vernieuwing. Je kan het ook anders stellen: een album dat zowel respectvol als innovatief is. [Pieter Dirksen] geeft overal duidelijke argumenten voor zijn herstel- en reconstructiewerkzaamheden en wie nu al die min of meer bekende noten in deze vorm hoort, is onmiddelijk overtuigd. Dat komt natuurlijk ook omdat het bijna solistisch bezette Combattimento alles geanimeerd en dansant speelt, het plezier spat ervan af. (Paul Herruer in Luister; waardering: 9).
